Frequently Asked Questions

What is naturopathy?

The six principles of naturopathy are as follows:

  • The Healing Power of Nature (Vis Medicatrix Naturae)

  • Identify and Treat the Causes (Tolle Causam)

  • First Do No Harm (Primum Non Nocere)

  • Doctor As Teacher (Docere)

  • Treat the Whole Person (Tolle Totum)

  • Prevention (Preventare)

You can read more about each of these here.

What does that all mean? That together we will work to find the causes of your illness rather than just suppress symptoms, and that I will educate and support you in healing yourself, rather than claiming to be the healer. We will learn how your body thrives, what it needs to achieve optimum health and how you can best improve responses to illness in the future. In my treatment plans, I aim to consider all aspects of your health - family history, current stressors and how you cope with them, your home and work environment, what you eat, how you move, time spent in nature, everything.

What kind of conditions might benefit from natural therapies?

I believe there is a plant (or combination of plants) for every illness, it’s just a matter of finding the right one. Using personalised herbal mixes I can make endless combinations of powerful tonics, adjusting the herbs and doses as your needs change.
While we have many quick remedies to help acute issues like a cold or flu, natural medicine also excels at the chronic conditions like autoimmune, skin, gut, allergies and mental health. I also have experience supporting people with hormonal issues and cardiovascular disease. There’s really nothing that can’t be benefit from the use of nutrition, herbal medicine, time in nature and other therapies.

What will happen in a consult?

In the initial appointment, we will run through your entire health history - from birth to today, from head to toe. I will then analyse and collate that information and form a treatment plan. This will usually be a combination of lifestyle changes, nutrition, herbal medicine and supplements. I will always try to keep supplements to a minimum. You may be referred for testing or to another practitioner. I may do some physical examinations if indicated.
In a repeat appointment, we will go over what has changed since last time - what worked for you, what was difficult, what new issues may have arisen, test results and so on. Treatment plans and priorities will change as necessary.

Will this involve lots of expensive supplements?

No! I’m not looking to prescribe you 50 expensive supplements that sit on your shelf for the next ten years making you feel guilty. I will always try to use up what you already have at home before recommending you buy others, and use food as medicine wherever possible. I believe natural health should be accessible to all. I also offer discounts for health care/concession card holders and can do payment plans or Afterpay.

Will you provide meal plans, recipes, cooking tips?

I certainly can do any and all of these. It’s part of my job to share my knowledge, so you can learn to nourish your body.
